The International Video Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing Model Factory in 2020 successfully held

The Key technology in sustainable manufacturing of Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation (SusMan) and “Global strategic partnership promotion plan” (GSP project) team successfully held the International Video Conference on sustainable manufacturing model factory on November 12th, 2020.

To conduct in-depth discussions on the international frontiers, research hot spots, development trends and international cooperation of sustainable manufacturing, international experts from Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation participated in this online conference, including Professor Hendrik Van Brussel who is the former president of the International Academy of production engineering (CIRP) and the member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Belgium; Professor Bert Lauwers who is the vice chairman of CIRP, director of Engineering and Technology Department in KU-Leuven; Professor Eberhard Abele who is the Academician of German Academy of Engineering and former director of PTW in Darmstadt University of Technology; Professor Matthias Weigold who is the current director of PTW in Darmstadt University of Technology; Professor Dirk Biermann who is the Chairman of CIRP STC C Committee and Director of ISF Institute in Dortmund University of Technology in Germany; Professor Michael Hauschild from Technical University of Denmark, who is the author of Sustainable Manufacturing in CIRP Encyclopedia; Professor Joost Duflou from KU-Leuven, who is the author of Clean Manufacturing in CIRP Encyclopedia; Professor Dominiek Reynaerts from KU-Leuven and Mr. Yilin Xu from FESTO.

Professor Ning He from NUAA presided over this conference. Firstly, he briefly explained the construction assumption of sustainable manufacturing model factory under the policy background and national strategy for the 14th Five Year Plan. Afterwards, Professor Matthias Weigold introduced the construction experience of ETA factory in Germany. Then, every expert shared their views on the latest research progress and future development trend of sustainable manufacturing. All experts agreed that sustainable manufacturing model factory construction plan proposed by NUAA is fully in line with the trend of international sustainable development requirements, and building a platform for interdisciplinary teaching and scientific research would greatly promote international exchanges and cooperation. Experts also put forward specific suggestions on the teaching and scientific function modules of the factory. After meeting, Professor Hendrik Van Brussel sent an email to propose written suggestions on the research direction, and expressed his interest in educational cooperation between NUAA and KU-Leuven.

Another goal of this video conference was that preliminarily discussing the idea of cooperative education and the construction of joint training alliance between NUAA and KU-Leuven. Professor Hendrik van Brussel and Professor Bert lauwers expressed their support and another video conference would be arranged for further discussion about joint education in the following days.

In the video conference, international authoritative experts provided valuable advice on the construction and planning of sustainable manufacturing demonstration factory, which greatly improve the international level of sustainable manufacturing and create more extensive joint cooperation opportunities. The conference has achieved a complete success.
